Security guard fights for life after Bedfordview armed robbery

Johannesburg - A man was fighting for his life on Monday morning after being shot in an apparent armed robbery on Van Buuren Road in Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

According to police, a security guard escorting a vehicle carrying cash was shot at.

Police were investigating.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics arrived on the scene and found the security guard had sustained life-threatening injuries.

"After medics stabilised him at the scene, they transported the critically wounded patient to a hospital in Alberton for the care that he required."

Ekurhuleni metro police referred queries to provincial police.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini told News24 earlier on Monday he was attaining information as to the exact nature of the incident.
