Serial killer pleads guilty to 20 murders

2013-08-28 09:02

East London - Argument in mitigation of sentence of a serial killer who pleaded guilty to 36 charges against him would be heard in the Eastern Cape High Court sitting in Butterworth on Wednesday, the Daily Dispatch reported.

Bulelani Mabhayi on Tuesday pleaded guilty to 20 charges of murder and 16 of rape. At least nine children were murdered, the publication reported.

Each charge against Mabhayi was read out to him, and he was asked to plead.

Mabhayi answered “ndinetyala” (I am guilty) to each charge.

The defence counsel read a statement by Mabhayi which contained details of how he committed his crimes, which resulted in the victims families' and friends weeping in court. Some had to be led out of the courtroom.

All his victims were women and children, and he mostly targeted homes where women were the head of the household.

A family of three was killed in May 2012.

After breaking in, Mabhayi would attempt to rape the women and girls in the house, before hacking everyone to death with an axe or panga.

Eish we lost our relatives in the Butterworth area. This monster deserves to die. Killing innocent grandmothers and kids.

The death penalty is too good for this bastard.

Why waste money on lethal injection. The head crusher comprised of a chin placed on a bottom bar, and the head was under a cap. The torturer then would turn a screw, pushing the cap down, bringing the victim's head closer and closer to the bottom bar. Teeth shattered (hey! no flossing!), and you died of slow, agonizing pain, but, the coup de gras, you were concious while your eyes popped out of your skull. Yeah, I know, you cringed. If stopped halfway, there would be permanently damaged in their brain, as well as their jaw or eyes.

I've never been an advocate for the death penalty but when I hear about cases like this, I wonder!

The death penalty would be apropriate for this guy!!

  • Johan Fou - 2013-08-28 09:51

Whether he brutally killed 16 or 160, the time he spends living on taxpayers' money will be the same. In a few years, the prisons will be overflowing again, and JZ will be pardoning him. How can anyone still oppose the death penalty?

      markt - 2013-08-28 09:57

Serial killers would never be pardoned.

      Willem de Haan - 2013-08-28 13:00

      You seriously believe that, Mark?

      Justin4aSecond - 2013-08-28 14:39

Uhm, so what about the serial farm murderer who got released, and then attacked and killed another farm owner and his family markt?

Mitigation of sentence???? What reasons could possibly mitigate against this monster being jailed with no possibility of parole EVER. The only mitigating factor would be if he asked for a minute alone, together with a pistol with a single bullet. If he is remorseful he will kill himself, even if the State can't.

      Lungi Mtshali - 2013-08-28 13:25

I think a plea bargain has already been negotiated, the guy will get one life sentence instead of two, with the possibility of parole after 20 years , in return for his confession. The prosecutor will have made it a condition of the bargain that he confesses to all murders, known & unknown to them. They don't want unsolved murders on national statistics.

According to the most wonderful and advanced constitution in the world(that of the NEW RSA of course) all people are equal and, you won't believe this, actually have the right to life! Of course, this does not apply to any law abiding citizen, as you will soon see, only to the criminal element. This African gentleman will be found guilty of all these numerous murders and receive the maximum penalty as allowed by this constitution - imprisonment for life! Yes, for every one of these murders he will be sentenced to life in a cosy cell. So, his life will not be taken away, it is worth more thañ that of each of his victims. In fact more than all their lives put together. Why? Well, because he has a right to life! Crazy, is it not? And, as he has already received the maximum punishment the law permits, he now is free to kill and rape and assault and do whatever he pleases as there is nothing more that can be done to him. What a wonderful constitution!
