Several fatalities on KZN roads

Durban - Several people have been killed and injured in various accidents in KwaZulu-Natal, the provincial Emergency Medical Services said on Saturday. 

In one incident, a man was killed when his vehicle overturned on the N2 near the Umngeni offramp on Friday night, said KZN EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie. 

The cause of the crash was unclear. 

Another person was killed in an accident on the R34 towards Blood River in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mckenzie said that car had also overturned.

"According to reports from paramedics on the scene sadly one person was killed and seven patients had sustained injuries, which ranged from critical to serious in nature," said Mckenzie. 

The patients were stabilised before being transported to hospital for continued medical care.

In Newcastle, one person was killed and four others were injured when two vehicles collided. 

The injured were treated on scene before being transported to hospital. 

The cause of the crash was also unclear.  

In another in incident, a young man was hit by a car on the N2 near the M25 highway at around midnight. 

He sustained critical injuries. 

"Once stabilised he, was transported to King Edward hospital by KZN EMS paramedics for continued medical care," said Mckenzie. 

The details surrounding the incident were not immediately clear.
