Johannesburg - An alleged armed robber and a policeman have been wounded in a shoot-out in Springs, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Flying Squad members stopped at the Selection Park supermarket to buy refreshments around 16:00 on Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

"Unaware that a robbery was in progress, they were suddenly confronted by two armed suspects."

A shoot-out ensued, with both the alleged robber and policeman wounded in the arm. Both robbers were arrested.

The wounded man was taken to hospital under police guard.

All stolen items were recovered at the scene. The policeman, 30, was taken to Parkland Clinic in a stable condition.

The two men were expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate's Court by Thursday on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms.
