Shoot-out at Joburg shopping centre

2012-06-26 12:42

Johannesburg - An armed robbery in a Dunkeld shopping centre ended in a shoot-out between security guards and three men on Tuesday, Johannesburg police said.

Captain Pinky Tsinyane said no injuries were reported.

A man entered the Dunkeld Fruit and Flowers shop in the Dunkeld West Centre, at the corner of Bompas and Jan Smuts avenues, in the morning, pretending to be a customer.

He hit the assistant manager with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of money.

Security guards shot at the robber and his two accomplices as they fled. The robbers returned fire before escaping in a white Toyota bakkie.

Police recovered a 9mm pistol at the scene.

      procold2 - 2012-06-26 13:04

for sure thank goodness no innocent parties were injured also a pity the security gaurds couldnt shoot straight

      Arthur - 2012-06-26 13:39

We are not a cowboy nation. It is a section of society that is F^CKED UP.

      Bardy - 2012-06-26 13:47

We are a cowboy nation... I can still remember when I was young... When someone was shot with a gun, it was BIG news! It was like the nation was gripped into suspense. Nowadays, every second f%&king criminal has a gun and murdered people has become a daily occurrence. I personally have been desensitized and when I read about these gun-slingers, all I can think is "Just another day in SA"

      Kala - 2012-06-26 14:04

      Cowboys could shoot straight.

      Preshen - 2012-06-26 17:23

      you rather shop online

      downwiththeANC - 2012-06-26 21:15

I am sure the robber was one of Zuma's sons. He even looked a bit like Zoomer, sorry, i mean Zuma. Apparently their are schools now for robbers all over the country. You get a free firearm from a corrupt policeman and they teach you to shoot skew. Eish

      Ec - 2012-06-27 06:59

Racism.... Racism... they escaped in a WHITE Toyota Bakkie!!!!

  • musamuskid - 2012-06-26 12:53

      Marius - 2012-06-26 13:50

This is a particularly succesful and busy fruit and flower shop. My favourite place to buy flowers.

  • susan.paul.330 - 2012-06-26 12:54

Rosebank and Dunkeld, safeheaven for drug merchants and prostitutes..

      Mondli - 2012-06-26 14:13

susan you reckon the thieves wanted some money for drugs & prostitutes? Then perhaps they meant to buy some flowers whilst at it for the prostitutes

      Mondli - 2012-06-26 15:06

      kenny.liebenberg - 2012-06-26 14:26

Bha Ha Ha! Maybe you are just used to people shooting around you that you have not noticed it!

  • dave.j.colquhoun - 2012-06-26 13:00

It's a pity that we aren't reading the same article with a dead robber or two mentioned in it.

      robert.m.sylvester - 2012-06-27 08:30

If the police shoot armed and violent criminals, they are charged with murder, the press are called to their homes, and the arrest is made into a hollywood movie-type. Check out what happened to the Durban SVC unit. They have a facebook page.

Soooo sick and tired of this shytttt , Zuma says whites controll the economy STOP ZUMA and his CORRUPT CRONIES

  • trevor.martin.1865 - 2012-06-26 13:11

Soooo tired of all this shyttttt , Zuma says whites controll economy Why doesnt he and his corrupt cronies wake up and start fixing this sick country of OURS , WHITES AND BLACKS aND EVERYBODY ELSE that helped to build it and STOP stealing us blind

      Mondli - 2012-06-26 15:04

margie, seriously? White supremacy syndrome? trevor clearly stated that every race that worked hard to build this country. You are insulting all of us none-white South Africans who work hard and not just for our future but for everyone's.

      kritzinger - 2012-06-27 13:03

Margie, if the black population weren't around, us whities would have great ideas, but nobody to put them into action. Don't underestimate how much work is done by the unskilled labour segment of the country. Stop being so narrow minded.

  • Gary - 2012-06-26 13:21

Just another average day in SA? Zuma's voters have to rob, kill and steal then it's back to their shacks while they live in luxary with millions in the their banks accounts But lets blame the whites..the economy is still in our hands after all.. Anc = the biggest mistake to happen in Africa!!

      kenny.liebenberg - 2012-06-26 14:31

@omanaija - You all are from Northern Africa it does not make a difference!

      omo.naija.750 - 2012-06-26 14:32

@blignault.michaele -- Another speculation.I knew one of you numb nuts will fall for that trap. You can not use your brain for anything other than to racialize and politicize everything. I am a Nigerian and no Zuma supporter. In fact i dislike the current ANC a lot. That however does not make me hate hate any race or blame any other race for the violence in this country or any other country for that matter. You see the difference between me and you is that i have common sense and i apply it regularly.

      bobbi.jantjies - 2012-06-27 15:44

@omonaija I have watched with interest at some of your comments at articles and you I must say you sound like an intelligent person.. I know this because you never seem to pass up an opportunity to say how educated or smart or blessed with logic or common sense or other.. you are.. Well omonaiijer if you're up for the challenge, lets just test your intelligence shall we? I recall you challenging another poster to a 'battle of intellect' on another posting. Few questions mmkay? 1)If a person with whom you have to interact keeps telling you how smart they are do you perhaps get the sense that they're exactly the opposite? 2) Can you name the region and/or continent where the people are the most politically disenfranchised, poverty stricken, starving, disease ridden, highest violence towards children and women, highest rapes and child molestation, most wars, most corrupt, highest crime rates etc.? You point out the 'non-sensical' racialisation of the assumption of perpertrators of crimes so the next question is along those lines.. 3) Can you identify a section of the population (and not just SA as this applies globally,in first world countries too) that has the highest percentage of criminal convictions and incarcerations per capita? Hang in there almost finished.. The perception of nigerians coming to SA is that they are involved in dodgy dealings. 4) What is the nature of your business here and can you profess to be 100% law abiding? If it is why couldn't you do it in nigeria?

      David - 2012-06-28 10:55

Really Gary... biggest mistake to happen in Africa? I mean RWANDA, ZIM, Freetown, DRC, Angola Civil war, King leopold...i really could go on.... I suspect you may be being over dramatic.

  • russell.l.tait - 2012-06-26 13:22

    This country is plainly f#$%ed!!

  • Johnny Alexander - 2012-06-26 13:35

  • Andre - 2012-06-26 13:36

And all the while the elite are stuffing their guts and drinking whilst the hungry stay hungry!

  • busicor.nel - 2012-06-26 13:41

The new General needs to show how she can manage, while she is finding her feet we are under attack. The attack is not against white, it against all. The more time we waist the more prisons we need to build in the future. Crime need action from our government by setting an example of accountability. We have enough police , but not enough that working and doing their jobs. This is only proving the theory right of the people that started apartheid. Black steal and steal. Please can we get black leaders that can stand up and say enough is enough. I must agree we are seeing some standing up, but it’s not enough. We are heading for a disaster, soon we will have nothing to govern, again lets prove the people of the past wrong. white are moaning and is vocal ,but this is considered racist. Please this is the real struggle , let us show South Africans have morals and deserves dignity.

      robert.m.sylvester - 2012-06-27 08:37

@Rodney - You are so right. Spead that word. If people all over SA support the SVC unit - there is a possible hope of something being done here

  • aidan.berry.14 - 2012-06-26 13:57

O well. I guess there is no ' Give that man a Bells' for anyone today.

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-06-26 14:22

I reckon the agents pay the guards not to shoot straight.

  • darren.peach - 2012-06-26 18:27

The Manager at the local Spar was Murdered the other day. Pointless.

  • samgaf - 2012-06-26 19:06

  • kevin.cramer.108 - 2012-06-26 19:16

Blame it (everything that goes wrong)on the White man....just like a child...

  • robert.m.sylvester - 2012-06-27 08:23

Pity the Durban SVC unit has been disbanded, and are now being charged for arresting these violent criminals. If "we the prople" do not support our police, from their OWN currupt and ineffective superiors, then expect the crime stats to get much worse.

  • Fanie Masemene - 2012-06-27 12:31
