Johannesburg - A businessman was shot and killed in Joubert Park, Johannesburg, on Sunday night, in what is believed to have been a business robbery, police said.

"A shop owner was attacked by a suspect and he was shot," spokesperson Constable Mpho Mashakane told Sapa.

The Nigerian national was allegedly approached by three armed men who shot him in the chest before robbing him.

"The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone and fled the scene," she said.

No arrests have been made and a case of business robbery has been opened.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said the shooting occurred on Noord Street.

"Upon their arrival on scene they found a man, believed to be in his forties, in a critical condition following the shooting incident," she said.

The man was treated on scene before he was rushed to hospital, but he died upon arrival.
