Durban - Six people died and two others were injured when a vehicle collided with a tanker on the R61 on Friday near Margate in KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said.

"Six adults sustained serious injuries and died before the arrival of emergency service personnel," Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said.

A man and woman were carefully extricated from the crumpled remains of the car. The man was critically injured, Wicks said.

"Common cause information indicates the car and the tanker were travelling in opposite directions when they collided."

The car reportedly spun out of control and came to rest against a roadside barrier.

The cause of the accident is unclear and would be investigated by police, Wicks said.

Please NEWS24, Margate is not in Durban, geography is not your strong point!

All of you who say trucks should be allowed to overtake are WRONG. The bloody things should stay in their lanes and if they have to slow down then so be it. I get pissed off when I am approaching a truck and i am doing a legal 120 in the "overtaking lane" when suddenly the truck's indicators come on and within a nanosecond there is 40 tons of steel right in front of me. Truck drivers go way too fast and care nothing for car drivers because they are bigger. No sir, truck drivers are discourteous and arrogant.
