2012-12-06 21:23

Johannesburg - Six people were arrested on Thursday for defrauding the Buffalo City municipality, in the Eastern Cape, of R11.8m, police said.

Police spokesperson Ernest Sigobe said the fraud was committed between February and September 2008.

The Hawks arrested three people in Mthatha and another three in East London. One of those arrested was still employed by the municipality, said Sigobe.

The suspects were aged between 36 and 50, and would appear in court soon.

R12 mi, thats nothing comparing of Zuma's fraud, when will he be arrested

      grootrot.vanzyl - 2012-12-06 21:52

Let us assume that these people are found guilty, how will the people of Buffalo City get their money back? If these people were cadre deployments, should those who deployed them not also be on the docket? Can the Hawks please see if everything was kosher in them getting the jobs too?

A drop in the ocean. R5.86 BILLION is what has been robbed from Buffalo City since 2008. The first detection of this was in 2008. So four more years of merry hell continued and they allegedly found the perps of R12million? and the 2008 AG's report

      marilyn.docherty.9 - 2012-12-07 08:07

Yes, Michil - When will JZ be arrested? Never - He is being rewarded for his fraudulent actions by being given a second term in office!!!

Hey, Lets give credit where credit is due. At least people are being caught out and arrested. It may well be a drop in the ocean but these types of crime are typically complex and need hard work and dedication to unwrap. Respect!

One of the ladies is a neighbour of a friend of mine. She's what you'd classify as poor. She looks after children at a childrens home here in Mdantsane. Another lady accused is a maid. If a child minder and a maid stole R11.5m in 2010 do the pigs really think that they'd continue living this way? G.T.F.O.H

      lacrimose.wolf - 2012-12-06 23:30

Nope these are the "fall guys"; people who got suckered into putting their names to paper. The real perpetrators are Untouchable. There'll be allegations and anecdotes but in a court of law, no proof. So the Maid and the Child Minder will probably go to jail or get probation, the money is long gone and the masters of these crimes will get Cabinet posts in 2014

So whats new? My pet hates are Corruption and Violence against Women and Children, as well as the lack of Job creation for the youth! Every day I think we have reached the height of corruption when smack - a new story hits me in the face! When I think of what the R12 million could be used for! And... I took part in Cosatu's go slow (albeit small) and now I am trying to calculate ALL the money that has been stolen from us - the people. We could line all our highways with money stolen from us - there would be no need for these damned e-tolls! We would have no informal settlements - there would be enough money for houses! And so on and so forth...... Then again I dont think we truly know how much of our tax money has been stolen, now do we? Every day something emerges from out of the wash..... Our politicians seem to be playing Monopoly with money in our coffers!
