Johannesburg - Three men and three women - allegedly part of a land-selling syndicate - appeared in the Ritavi Magistrate's Court on Monday, Limpopo police said.

Maimise Raymond Nomvela, 42, Madume Michael Mbhalati, 47, Tinyiko Jane Mpenyani, 46, Louisa Plantina Sekhwari, 46, Raymond Makelani, 52, and Thandi Mpenyani, 41, would all be back in court on Thursday for their bail application, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

All six live in Mbambamechesi in Nkowankowa D Section, outside Tzaneen.

They had allegedly been selling land illegally in Mbambamechesi since 2012, with locals paying between R3 000 and R40 000 for a plot.

"Police are now making an appeal to all members of the community who bought these sites from this group to call the investigating officer in this case, Detective Warrant Officer Mbekeni Elia Shingange at 073 079 1724."

Ngoepe warned the public against buying sites in roadside transactions and advised them to always go through official channels.
