Johannesburg - Six people were injured when their vehicle collided with a truck on the N1 near the Maraisburg offramp west of Johannesburg on Friday morning, said emergency workers.

ER24 paramedics found the truck and car stationary on the right lane of the highway, said spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"Three of the six occupants were found seated against the barriers while the remaining three were found seated inside the vehicle," said Meiring.

He confirmed that the vehicle had been overloaded.

All the car occupants sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

They were treated on scene before being transported to the Helen Joseph Hospital for further medical care, Meiring said.

The truck driver was not injured.

Meiring said it was unclear what had caused the accident.

The crash caused a heavy traffic backlog but the scene had since been cleared, Meiring said.
