Johannesburg - A soccer fan was arrested for allegedly being part of a group of angry spectators who vandalised the Dobsonville stadium in Soweto last week, police said on Saturday.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the man along with other soccer supporters allegedly broke a fence and vandalised the stadium when Moroka Swallows beat Sundowns last Sunday.

Sundowns supporters tore down the stadium’s security fence and stormed the pitch. Makhubela said more arrests would be made soon.

"It would be better if people who know they were part of that to just hand themselves over to police because eventually, we are going to find them...we have them on camera.

The man would appear in the Protea Magistrates Court on Monday for trespassing and malicious damage to property.

GOOD! For too long hooliganism of all forms have hidden themselves in the anonimity that a crowd brings. With the advent of social media and the fact that practically everybody has access to a camera phone - now photos of these idiots are available all over the net! Let's see these CRIMINALS now being brought to justice and hoisted by their own pertard!

Not quite. You see this happening in Europe and South America too. It does not happen with other sports that draw large crowds like cricket and rugby though.

I hope this will be a lesson to all supporters who use to do this in most matches.
