Social media abuzz with delight for Skippy and Zoey

THE safe return of the two missing dachshunds Skippy and Zoey has gladdened people’s hearts.

The Weekend Witness newsroom received a number of calls yesterday from local residents expressing their joy over the dogs’ safe return home to their loving owner.

Social media sites were equally abuzz with delight.

One caller said she’d been kept awake at night with worry about the dogs’ fate after reading about the dog-napping which accompanied the theft of owner Devan Naidoo’s bakkie on May 28. “I’m so happy to know they are safe and sound. I’m sure coming home and reuniting with their family is all they wanted,” said one reader, Cheryl Cook, online.

The Witness Facebook page was inundated with comments by enthusiastic readers. “I am so happy for the two pooches and their daddy. I can imagine how overjoyed they all were. I have been following the story and kept wondering if they were okay. Such great news,” commented Cathy Wood.

Other forms of support have surfaced through the story’s publication.

Sausage dog fanatic Kerrie Bosse, who is the owner of an online dog accessories and toys store, expressed her delight. She intends to send the two lucky pets a gift from her store. “I am going to send them some beautiful fluffy blankets to keep them warm through winter.”

The two dogs, now safely with their owner, are likely to be spoilt after such an unlikely miracle reunion.

“Buy them welcome home biltong,” was one suggestion given by Tim van Niekerk
