East London - A member of the SA National Defence Force allegedly shot dead his girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself in Tsolo on Sunday, Eastern Cape police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said the 27-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital but his 27-year-old girlfriend died at the scene.

His service pistol has been confiscated and he is under police guard in hospital.

Fatyela said the cause of the shooting is not clear.

Maybe someone was bonking the girlfriend while he was on duty!

I know this couple personally. The girl ended up being myfriend because I had to help her out several times when she wud fight with him. I never thought that he would go this far. He has shamed us who knew him as a friend.

I'm not shocked it is their way to handle relationship when they encounter infidelity in their affairs .

Your comment is so ridiculous it hardly warrants a response. Just for clarity though, when you say "it is THEIR way to handle..." do you mean black men or SADF members? And nowhere is it mentioned that infidelity was a factor. FYI, there have been a number of cases of men, includng police officers and SADF members of ALL races who have killed their loved ones. You should try thinking and re-reading the article before writing this type of garbage.

Well it goes to show you how useless our defence force has become this is a highly trained killing machine that can't kill himself properly, bring back the old SADF (condolences to the girlfriends family)

      Akhona - 2012-01-25 16:11

I think he did it on purpose, hoping to survive.

  • Larry - 2012-01-23 08:28

Typical of the New SANDF, he couldnt even shoot himself properly. RIP to the Woman.

When he recovers he must be sent to Afghanistan and taste war.

      K0BUSL - 2012-01-23 09:05

No TF, he should be sent to an area in the Cape Flats marked as a member of an opposing gang........ he won't see it coming

She was on the verge of leaving him thats why these murders happen in SA :^(

      Akhona - 2012-01-25 16:13

She has been breaking up with him but he would always beg. When they are back together he would cheat, beat her up. I would have to give her money to go back to Tsolo then he would follow, bring her back then history repeats itself.

Why is this "allegedly"? Surely it is plain to see what happened.

  • jpcronje - 2012-01-23 09:06

Why not just shoot him dead while he is in hospital??

      Akhona - 2012-01-25 16:14

      He later died too.

The only difference between the SA Army and a circus is that the Army has more tents.

No value for life and many who have guns outheir should not be carrying a gun. Just look at all the police domestic insidents where a gun seems to be the answer. Scary.

The biggest threat faced by the ordinary man on the street in the new South Africa is the government itself and their legions of men in uniform, who have guns, but no morals or decency. Welcome to ZIM wannabe.

Another: Until death do us apart! Marriage vows taken literally. The time has come to remove this phrase from the marriage vows. Infact, who still subscribes to some vows written long ago in some bush in Europe? Write your own vows then you shall never be misunderstood. But what if you misunderstand yourself and we read one day that your spouse became a target practice?

Why is it that they must always shoot the wife or girlfriend as well before they kill themselves. If they want to end their lives so be it, their partners dont necessarily want their's ended. Its ridiculous.

  • Gerhard - 2012-01-31 08:22

Get him well soon and send him out again. Lots of people out there that needs a killing!
