Kids found in boot during border bust

Johannesburg - Two Somali men were arrested near Zeerust, North West, for allegedly trying to smuggle six children and a woman into South Africa, police said on Tuesday.

The Hawks caught the men at the Swartkop border post around 21:30 on Monday, spokesperson Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

"The two men were found in the border post entering South Africa from Botswana illegally with six children and a woman."

In their car they had a 4-month-old boy, a pair of 4-year-old twin boys, two 10-year-old girls, and a 14-year-old boy. Two of the children were found in the car's boot.

The woman, 35, claimed to be the baby's mother, Ngubane said. The children were taken to a place of safety in Mahikeng while the matter was investigated.

The men would appear in Zeerust Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges relating to contraventions of the Immigration Act.

Other charges could be added as the investigation unfolded.

  • Michael Hawthorne - 2013-01-16 03:35

They and all the anc mentality should go back where their illigal imigrant parents came from

Good that they found the children and made arrests but SA border control still need to up their game. Illegals are coming into the country left right and centre, not to mention children for who knows what purposes.

Funny thing is some ppl posting bad comments here actually have in their employ: a foreign gardener, maid and some buy from a foreign owned spaza. The same ppl submit irp5 forms for the said employees for tax. Just saying

      PureProteas - 2013-01-16 06:48

hope you have proof of that, as for me, no maid, no gardner, shop at woolies and food lovers, end of story

SA is like a big pot of food. Now you say some only put in ONE carrot and now you expect all there friends to also eat from this pot. This is not Ubuntu. This is robbing the real quests of their rightfull meals.

If the foreigners are paying tax then at least they are being productive and contributing towards the benefits they enjoy in SA then they are welcome. BUT - if they enter illegally just to gain access to social grants, free accommodation, medical services, education etc they are NOT welcome as they are just a drain on resources and contribute to a shortage of accommodation and other services. If taxpayer money was used to provide only for legal SA citizens, the standard of housing, medical, education and all other services would be of a higher standard - but because it also has to provide for the supposedly 6 million illegal foreigners the standards are dropping daily. The government does nothing about stopping the influx of undocumented foreigners streaming into SA - and it is the SA citizens who are suffering. Thi is not xenophobia - it is simple economics. If 2 people share a loaf of bread, neither go hungry. If 20 people share the same loaf of bread - all 20 go hungry!

The thing is South Africa's Economy is not yet big to accommodate all the floods of immigrants running to this country.......the cities are full and dirty of immigrants some who are here illegally don't have work.....some running illegal business, forged qualification, citizenships, identity documents some are even getting tenders fraudulently using forged I.D books.....every government should take care of the ppl of its own country.....its a burden for SA....while their government is loathing all the state resources with their kinds overseas.....South African government should demand taxes ,for ARV's,Housing , Social grants, free basic services, free education nd access to government health care from all the countries whose citizens are in this country not working....the problem is they are all bringing in their family grandmothers, fathers nd cousins.....its a mess....we love our African brothers but they dont love this country we fought for....they are here to destroy it with drugs, credit card frauds, illegal schools, brothels and killing not even paying taxes....they are destroying our youth in Pretoria, Sunnyside,Hillbrow, nd Rosentenville with their drugs.....
