Johannesburg - Former Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi claims there are people who are trying to isolate him from society through fake social networking accounts set up in his name.

"There are about four other Facebook pages being set up, but one in particular is somebody who is full of mischief," he told News24 on Monday.

"They have been posting all manner of things... sometimes what I would have said on my Twitter or official Facebook, sometimes just creating stories which are meant and designed to just antagonise everybody."

Vavi said he believed this was deliberate.

"It is somebody who is... developing conspiracy theories, driving a wedge between me and all manner of people."

He said the Facebook page used many of his official Tweets but also some made up comments.

Vavi said the fake Facebook page had little more than 8 000 followers.

When News24 looked at the page it was last updated on October 31.

The post was a 2012 painting of President Jacob Zuma with his genitals exposed by artist Ayanda Mabulu.

The picture was accompanied by a comment: "I am not Zuma Fan but Ayanda Mabulu's Art deserves condemnation. Even if we despise a leader we cannot promote this. What's your take? ?#‎Admin."

Further down on the page there is a disclaimer explaining that any post with #Admin at the end were not Vavi's views.

"Some views expressed in this page are those of administrators of the page and , do not necessarily reflect views of Zwelinzima Vavi ... Our posts are not meant to offend any party... And from today anyone hurling insults will be permanently banned from this group. Thank u for your support. PS. look for HashtagAdmin at the end of each post. The ones without ?#‎Admin will be 100percent Comrade Zwelinzima Vavi's words... Word for word. #Admin."

However, Vavi wants the fake Facebook pages removed and said he has been trying to report them, but to no avail.

"I'm stuck with it. I've been trying to get it reported for months. I can't and I don't know what to do beyond that.

"I don't hold such views and everyone knows what views I hold. All of these personal attacks on everyone else is not my style," Vavi added.
