Soweto court fills up again for Jub Jub

2012-10-16 09:44

Johannesburg - A Soweto court on Tuesday was packed in anticipation of the judgment in the murder trial of musician Molemo Jub Jub Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala were allegedly drag-racing in Protea North in March 8 2010 when they crashed into a group of schoolchildren. Prince Mohube, Mlungisi Cwayi, Andile Mthombeni, and Phomello Masemola, were killed.

Frank Mlambo and Fumani Mushwana were seriously injured.

A court official asked people in the second and third rows of the court to make space for the families and friends of the schoolchildren.

Ahead of the judgment, those who were unable to find seats filled all the standing room in the court while others waited outside to catch a glimpse of the accused as they arrived.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala are charged with murder, reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and failing to asses the injuries of the victims.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

      djmarcosa - 2012-10-16 10:34

@phuthi... if it was your kids that were killed would you give them another chance.. they must suffer for the rest of their lives.. just cause these guys are hot shot celebs doesn't give them the right to get away with murder.. they must face the law.. end of story

If they paid the judge enough, they will go scott free. I would like to think that our judicial system is beyond corruption, but why then are there so many court cases that just mysteriously disappear?

There is rain forcasted for the area. Let's not hold our breath for any sort of finality.

      Ntarts - 2012-10-16 10:43

@Phuthi you've got some nerve! What about the families of the victims?? You can't be serious..

      lerato.mautlane - 2012-10-16 11:42

@Phuti i say give them a chance yes while they serve their sentence!!! Letting them go without any sort of punishment won't bring closure or justice to the families of the kids that died and also 2 injured kids are actually handicapped from the accident now, how do you bring comfort in a situation like that!!! no amount of money can fix this...u can accept their apology but forgetting and truly moving on is something else!

  • sanchez.sancho.7 - 2012-10-16 09:51

Nothing less than 2 x life sentences and compensation for the surviving victims. Anything else would be unacceptable

  • Andrea - 2012-10-16 10:02

Somehow I think that, should the verdict be Not Guilty, these two probably would not make it their cars ... too many upset people in that crowd.

  • Hemlock - 2012-10-16 10:09

the children were killed in 2010 and they are still free men? why are some people prosecuted and sent to jail quickly while jub jub and his friend are still out two years after the incident happened.

      desertratbkf - 2012-10-16 10:48

      My sentiments exactly!

  • gail.allanlutz - 2012-10-16 10:47

Get on with it already - for goodness sakes - they are dragging this out with a total case of the Dramatics!

  • thembile.gumbi - 2012-10-16 10:48

they need to be taught a lesson out of this, to those who say they suffered, how? by going to court wearing expensive clothes. Please dont make a mockery out of the death of those innocent kids who died untimely because of unthinking hooligans.

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-10-16 11:19

Another postponement on it's way? This case has dragged on so long one wonders if the judge has fallen in love with his chair.

  • fikile.khoza - 2012-10-16 11:50

they will develop cancer or kidney failure and depression and they will let them go free
