Speeding mom blames it on baby

2012-09-10 22:39

Johannesburg - A Centurion woman was arrested on Monday after she was caught driving at 207km/h, with a baby in her car, Gauteng traffic police said.

Spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said the 22-year-old hairdresser was driving a BMW on the R21 when she was pulled over.

"After stopping the vehicle and informing the lady of the reason for stopping [her]... she immediately blamed a sick baby in the car as her reason for speeding.

"Upon investigation by the [police] members, the baby appeared to be fine, [and] only when the mother removed the dummy, the child started to cry."

The woman was charged with reckless or negligent driving, with an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit.

She was released on R1 000 bail.

i knew it.......Centurion drivers are the WORST drivers in Gauteng.......

      sarel.brits - 2012-09-11 05:49

And CT is the worst in the country 95% of them are asleep and its the only place in SA where the people actually drive faster when it rains, Another lot is that bunch in their Hilux DC bakkies that nest on the eastern side of Pretoria the place is full of aspiring blue light convoy drivers they think they own the road when we all know the road belongs to Motorbikes and BMW,s because its the only car that kind of can keep up.LOL

Hairdresser that drives a BMW, I missed my vocation

Stupid idiot, youhad your child with you!!!! Brains in short supply in your famly

  • raymond.kok3 - 2012-09-11 05:44

at that speed it would just take a stray dog on the road surface for her too lose control and either kill herself and her baby or some innocent person adhering to the speed limit

      sarel.brits - 2012-09-11 06:01

So what's the problem in your scenario? The dog correct! Just because the speed limit is a 120 does not mean the driver and the care is not capable of doing 180 safely, its done everyday on the Autobahn in Germany. The difference is SA laws aims to cater for the lowest common denominator on the road and that is TAXI's

      chris.debeer1 - 2012-09-11 07:29

Dear Sarel I wonder the Taxis in Australia must be mighty bad 100 km/h Max Mostly 80 km/h. Short and sweet this woman was utterly irresponsible. Risking her and her child's life as well as other road users.

      jackie.m.dickson - 2012-09-11 11:21

@Sarel - what has the Autobahn got to do with this? Our roads are crap - full of potholes & lumps & bumps where they patch. This woman was caught in SA what part of that dont you understand? We have speed limits here...surprise surprise! Besides all of that we have way too many unlicensed drivers on our roads for anyone to want to drive that speed....stray dogs would be the least of your worries. The woman is insane & even more so because she had a baby with her end of story.

Not so much manners as intelligence... (or lack there of)

  • cya.ngoma - 2012-09-11 06:47

I'm sure she was practising to be the best driver in the world. Thanks to the Traffics for stopping her before she cause an accident.

Yip 207 is fast. But have you seen a Hi-ace with 19 passengers traveling on a down hill?? Now that is fast.

      bryan.torien - 2012-09-11 10:52

I think the Nissan E20 with 19 passengers would give that Hi-ace a run for it's money!

      Hahahahahahahhah! Wow!

  • lulama.mbelwa - 2012-09-11 07:11

We all have a high for speed, but u don't do it with a baby on board. Thank God the police stopped her who knows what could have happened.

  • wesleywt - 2012-09-11 07:20

I was on the German autobahn going at 160km/h. An Audi A6 flew by as if we where standing still. When we both turned off the highway, the speed limit was 70. The Audi drove at the speed limit, exactly. And that is the difference between a civilized country like Germany, and the speeding barbarians of SA. SA drivers are just too stupid.

      Jo.Davies123 - 2012-09-11 09:30

Agreed. There are so many reasons we could not have an autobahn. People i9n out country don't understand the rules of the road, cars not road worthy and general agression. Speed works when people understand the responsiblities it comes with.

  • arthur.salvado - 2012-09-11 07:22

Argument over. It's not always about bikers. Also note that a bike at 200 is much more stable than a car. Also, a car at 200 can do untold damage. Now leave bikers alone.

  • Dawn Campbell Gibson - 2012-09-11 08:52

Stupid B1tch! should be charged with attempted murder. Donate the BMW to a worthy cause and buy a bicycle.

  • Hemlock - 2012-09-11 09:14 don't drive like an assh*le with an infant in the car. Suspend her license.

  • Donne.3 - 2012-09-11 10:58

Ok so I am always the first one to blast people that drive like idiots when their kids are in the car and to get out my car and give mothers a piece of my mind when their kids arent strapped in. But nowhere here does it say her child was not sick??? "Upon investigation by the [police] members, the baby appeared to be fine, [and] only when the mother removed the dummy, the child started to cry." Now when my kids are sick - neither of them really cry either. They are quiet and lathargic generally - but hell brother - take that dummy out and you best stand back. Did she go to the doctor? Was there a medical report of the child? Did anyone follow her to a doctor / hospital? Just a question?

      jackie.m.dickson - 2012-09-11 11:23

If the baby was sick its still no reason to speed like that? Sick is better than dead? And if she was that sick I am sure mother dearest wouldnt have gone for a spin on the highway? Maybe first call to the hospital??

  • ludlowdj - 2012-09-11 11:31

At that speed she should have been arrested on the spot.

  • Sima1989 - 2012-09-11 11:31

lol kwaaaaaa nyc1! Damn ths chck is clever kwaaa

  • John - 2012-09-11 21:16

Who is the complainant? Who did she endanger? We have all lost sight of the power of choice! Before the speed limits were implemented I used to thoroughly enjoy travelling in excess of 160 kph and never caused or experienced an accident or collision. It certainly raised my awareness. when I was forced to drive at 80 kph I fell asleep, ended up on the right!

  • John - 2012-09-11 21:27

I really wonder how many high speed collisions there are as compared to ALL collisions. My experience has been that the majority of collisions are alcohol related! This is where our attention should be focused. If this woman ENDANGERED anyone let that MAN or WOMAN come forward and complain! Assumptions are just SPECULATION not FACT.
