Johannesburg - The swimmer who was arrested for speeding on the N1 to Pretoria on Sunday is not an Olympic athlete.

Beeld newspaper on Monday reported that Swimming SA spokesperson Godfrey Monei confirmed he was not an Olympic swimmer.

The man would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court with his father on Monday, Gauteng traffic police said.

The pair were arrested for speeding on the N1 to Pretoria on Sunday and released on bail.

Spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said the 55-year-old father was caught shortly before 07:00 driving at 234km/h in a Porsche GT3.

"His 20-year-old son, who is an Olympic swimmer for South Africa, also driving the same make of Porsche, was caught behind him travelling at 188km/h," Nxumalo said on Sunday.

The SA Swimming team for the London Olympic Games is in camp in Monaco where they are hosted by Princess Charlene of Monaco, an ex-South Africa Olympic swimmer.

Nxumalo said the two were arrested for reckless or negligent driving, with an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit of 120km/h.

Be that as it may. I have no desire to own a Porsche since you can't make use of it. It's like having a wife and not be allowed to have sex with her (I may be touching a straight nerve here. LOL). Where people in Germany buy cars for their speed, in SA everyone knows cars are only bought for their prestige status.
