A ST ANNE’S Hospital male nurse has been accused of sexual assault following an incident at the hospital last Thursday.

A 15-year-old girl reported the nurse to the Loop Street police station saying she one of the male nurses pulled down her gown and sexually assaulted her during her stay in the hospital.

Pietermaritzburg SAPS spokesperson Constable Mthokozisi Ngobese said the police could confirm that a 15-year-old girl had opened a case of sexual assault at the Loop Street police station against a St Anne’s male nurse last Thursday.

“No arrests have been made as the case has just been handed over to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.”

Spokesperson for Netcare, Martina Nicholson, said the hospital was aware of the allegations.

“We have launched an internal investigation but in the best interest of a minor patient, we are not in a position to comment further,” she said.
