Johannesburg - The State closed its case in the trial of the alleged "Sunday Rapist" in the High Court, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court, Alberton, on Wednesday.

Judge Sita Kolbe postponed the matter to Thursday, when the defence for Johannes Jacobus Steyn would present its case.

"It is a very serious case with very serious consequences," she said, adding if the defence needed more time, it should let her know.

Steyn has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, 11 of rape, 10 of sexual assault, 10 of kidnapping, one of attempted sexual assault, and one of attempted kidnapping.

The State's last witness, trauma specialist Jean de Wilde, testified on medical examinations done on the girls who were sexually assaulted. He said he found indications of vaginal penetration.

The State was still searching for a doctor meant to give evidence on the sexual assault of another victim.

Kolbe said if the doctor was found at any stage during the trial his testimony could be heard, if necessary.

Probably realised after all this time that jail isn't as nice as he thought and is now trying everything he can to get out. As if.

Yes but this creep is sure to spend some very long agonising years well away from society.
