Steenkamp's memorial to be held soon

2013-02-15 19:44

Johannesburg - A memorial service for Reeva Steenkamp will be held in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, the SABC reported.

It would be held on the same day paralympian Oscar Pistorius is expected to appear in court on charges of murder, the public broadcaster reported on Friday.

A family member, Michael Steenkamp, said Reeva's body would be flown back that day and she would be cremated in a private service.

Pistorius was arrested on Thursday after Steenkamp, a model, law graduate, and participant in the Tropika Island of Treasure television show, was shot dead in his home.

He spent Thursday night in jail and will be held at Brooklyn police station in Pretoria until his next court appearance.

My heartfelt condolences to the Steenekamp famly in this very diifcult time for the loss of an Xtremely B'tiful n vibrant person. To Oscar, I can imagine, the pain u goin through, may God b with U, this is a wake up call to the athorities for the violent society we liv in that a Gun has to b on hand all the time, fro our protection against these brutal criminals, all of us must pray for a Normal, safe n peaceful life in our B'tiful SA

      beverley.bedggood.3 - 2013-02-16 11:34

This had NOTHING to do with criminals, it was entirely between Oscar , his temper and a gun. It could have been Me behind the door but I was sleeping.

Very sad news, my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Life is very precious whether you are black or white. I do however have a disturbing thought, a couple of years ago a white man shot and killed a black man and mistake him for a dog and now a white man shot and killed a white women and allegedly mistake her for a bugler. I wonder if the outcome will be the same. Just a thought provoked by the kind of society we live in.

      koos.vanderwalt.35 - 2013-02-16 10:00

Brian and all of us,for that matter. What about the Pistorius family?Should we not also wish them strength through these difficult times? I wish them courage and strenght and may we have a fair trial......remember.....we have to hear the true story behind the incident.Afore ye crucify.

  • ronald.gainsford - 2013-02-16 09:28

What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? Yes this was and is tragic.

      beverley.bedggood.3 - 2013-02-16 11:36

Too late Ronald. The evidence is overwhelming.

I want to appeal to all commenting on here as someone who knew Reeva well to be aware that Reeva herself did not approve of the death penalty - unless her views had changed in the last few years. Please let's honour her by looking within ourselves and seeking the good and doing something positive for our country. Oprah said it too. Only you can be the change you want to see. When you drink or drug, don't drive. When you are in charge of everyone's taxdollars use it to maintain infrastructure for the sick and for the employed and to create employment, not to enrich yourself & supporters with palatial homes with bunkers in the middle of nowhere, numerous wives and children, two airplanes etc. Honour Reeva by really thinking before you place your vote just what example Zuma & Co have set during the last 5 years. Vote for ALL the Reeva's who have died based on whether you believe Zuma and a political party which supports him and is focussed only on enriching themselves should be ruling this country for another 5 years. How many women and children have died since Reeva was shot because of dereliction of duty by the ANC? How many more deaths do you want on your hands. Nobody deserves to die in taxi accidents or be raped because of the opportunity being there. Let Reeva 's death be the rallying point we take with us when we vote in 2014 and say NO to another 5 years of the ANC's corrupt leadership.

      bridget.thusi.1 - 2013-02-16 10:55

Gail, are you seriously using Reeva's death to canvass against the ANC?

      beverley.bedggood.3 - 2013-02-16 11:41

What you have to say does actually have the ring of truth to it.

  • khanyo.ngwane.9 - 2013-02-16 10:58

Gail, you've lost it. What does Zuma have anything to do with Reeva's death. Your short sighted message is in fact disrespectful to the grieving family. Learn to separate issues, this is not about politics but a life of a young woman lost & the grieving family. You are insensitive by your opportunistic narrow political mindedness.
