Durban - A man who claimed he was robbed of a R33m winning lottery ticket got his draw dates mixed up, the Daily News reported on Monday.

The 26-year-old man had the right numbers for the 13 October draw, but his ticket was for the 16 October draw, the police were quoted as saying.

Sipho Ngcobo was reportedly robbed of the ticket by men dressed in police uniform, in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal, on the night of 14 October.

However, doubts about his claim emerged when the Sunday Tribune reported that the winning ticket was bought at a Spar in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands town of Wartburg.

CCTV footage showed the unnamed winner jumping for joy after the win was displayed on the screen of the shop's lottery machine.

The Tribune quoted the unnamed winner as saying that his bank accounts were frozen following Ngcobo's claims.

The Daily News reported that it was the first time Ngcobo had played the lottery and that his "winning" ticket was bought only on 14 October.
