Strand beach allegedly hit by sex ring

2012-08-23 07:59

Cape Town - A well-known Strand beach has allegedly become the operating ground of a male prostitution ring and the local surfing community is outraged.

The Cape Argus reported that children on the beach were being sexually harassed by men.

The area worst affected was the beach between the Strand Surf Lifesaving Club and the miniature golf course.

Several people complained to reporters about the goings-on at the beach and the fact that children going to the beach were being approached by men seeking sex.

Men were apparently also frequently masturbating in front of children and sex acts were taking places in toilets and in bushes surrounding the beach.

The local lifesaving club was now helping police and the neighbourhood watch to address the issue.

Members of the public with any information have been urged to contact Strand police station on 021 854 9100.

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 10:41

Well you can be sure she will do something about it.

      aeon.lamour - 2012-08-24 11:14

Other than your comrad, Zille will actually take action as she cares for her people. Sorry to hear of these horrible acts. No adult or child deserves to be exposed to human filth.

      ianmichaelcalder - 2012-08-24 13:58

A geography lesson that perhaps you missed. Strand is outside of Cape Town. Help yourself to a quick google, and learn something.

The comments that we give at times are really saddening. Will we ever move forward instead of backwards or stagnant? This could have happened anywhere!

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-08-23 10:02

Bongwer, stagnant is where we are. Soon it will start smelling to high heavens.

  • shelley.vorster.9 - 2012-08-23 09:06

      Havokreeka - 2012-08-23 12:49

Yeah, when a baby gets raped in Pretoria to cure AIDS, the rest of the country doesn't go on about how everyone in Pretoria is sick. I think everyone's just jealous that the DA are doing a better job than the rest of the country.

      aeon.lamour - 2012-08-24 11:15

Finally some brilliant comments! Thanks you two.

      thozi - 2012-08-23 22:33

@sifiso.msimango I was waiting for that... We simply just can't finish any topic without dragging the race-card into it, can we?

Seems like a great opportunity for the homophobes to trot out their bigotry. Consenting adults should be free to do what they want with each other as long as nobody is harmed. The problem is not their behaviour itself, it's that they are carrying on in an area with children present which is not acceptable. Perhaps this is the consequence of closing men only areas like Graaff's pool at Sea Point? Let's grow up and be adults about it and accept the reality that this is as old as prostitution and will always exist, so instead of having a moralistic, biblical tantrum about, be mature and establish specific areas where this sector of society can have an outlet without disturbing others and where children are not allowed.

      Johan De Beer - 2012-08-23 19:02

      You must be crazy

  • kobus.bekker - 2012-08-23 17:12

this is an appeal to all real men to join me so that we can stand up and get rid of this rubish

      aaron.radebe.1 - 2012-08-23 18:17

By "rubbish", do you mean gay people in general, or just people who look for sexual gratification in public places?

      Johan De Beer - 2012-08-23 19:01

      jaded.oldfart - 2012-08-23 22:40

@aaron: this has nothing to do with sexual orientation. it has to do with my wife and daughter being harassed on the beach by perverts lurking in the bushes, wanking blatantly while staring at them. if it happened to my son, i'd be equally pist off, except they won't because he's big enough to sort them out.

      jaded.oldfart - 2012-08-23 22:47

      @ johan: one word - tw@t

      aeon.lamour - 2012-08-24 11:42

Kom net by of bly stil asb!

      johandebeer - 2012-08-24 18:14

Lamour, you are probably a sodomist or have sodomist friends. This is the only way you could be twisted enough to have this viewpoint. For a sodomist to try to shame others is similar to the Marikane thugs blaming the police. Our society is really sickening by the day.

      johandebeer - 2012-08-24 18:16

Oldfart, swearing at people is usually a sign of inferior intelligence.

  • KennySven - 2012-08-23 17:27

Exterminate these sick minded oxygen thieves as they do in the some of the Arab countries.

      cameronrh1 - 2012-08-24 11:49

@Kenny i am sure they would exterminate you too while they at it...

  • billidp - 2012-08-23 17:40

To all the bigots who have commented on this post denigrating gays - please do not show your ignorance. Do some research if you can read, and you will find that 99% of paedophiles are HETEROSEXUAL MEN!!!! And I will ask my buddy who is with the neighbourhood watch working on this case exactly WHO they catch and arrest!!! Get a life you so homophobic called "real men"!!!

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 10:58

YOu don't have to convince those of us with brains. But I would prefer that gay men not feel the need to 'take it outside'.

      aeon.lamour - 2012-08-24 11:46

So what are you saying Maylani? That gays must stay indoors, away from you and your straight friends? So it is ok if you hold your hubby's hand in public but gays can not? Now who's the bigot??

      cameronrh1 - 2012-08-24 11:49

@maylani, excuse me... i dont take my sexual acts "outside", stop generalising about gay people. Straight people also have sex "outside". And this article does not even say whether it is gay or straight individuals

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 11:52

Stop being such an oversensitive drama queen. That's not what I'm saying. Anyone can hug and kiss all they want. You don't see me cruising public places for sex? I have nothing against people doing what they want in privacy but shagging in public toilets is a bit iffy and my kids don't need to see that.

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 12:03

@Cameron - I'd have a problem with straight people shagging in the loos too. Australians seem to love doing it. Had a friend who kept taking guys to the park.. Stop being so defensive and finding homophobia under every rock.

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 12:45

Oh heck let me clarify... No gay people must not stay away from me because then I'll never see certain friends and family. Not all gay men have sex with random strangers in public toilets. But yes it does say that its a male prostitution ring in the article. Now unless they are servicing women too the natural conclusion is...? And no we can't shut down Point Rd because then where will my husband go? Sigh... Anyone else still got hurt feelings? Louis Lamour ek dink dis nie nice nie - ek is nie 'n bigot nie. Jy weet v0k0l oor wie ek is. Vat dit terug asb.

      aeon.lamour - 2012-08-27 08:23

Apologies Maylani. I see I just read your statement incorrectly.

  • leon.volker.39 - 2012-08-23 18:32

I live in the area , and take walks daily around the area mentioned , Yes the bushes behind the area are frequented by vagrants , This story has also been published by the local Districk mail , And seems theres an old Gentleman , in the are with way too much time on his hands . He Allegatly also has seen the ring leader in a car parked in the area. Sure theres a diffrance between Prostitution ?and harrasing kids for 'sex' ?Something does not smell right here . The surfers are frequently seens smoking Zol in the same bushes ,I find is sad that theres other areas in Strand/ Pavilion area , selling Rubbish , Drugs and Illegal goods OPENLY , mos of which are Illegal Immagrants , Why do nobody see this as a problem . No doubt theres some sick folks around . The second point is the 'people' mastrubating in view of beach goers ,it only one guy and he has been around since 2010 ,he also hang out in the Somerset Mall pulls the same tricks there .A week ago We saw a Hi jacking in Broad day light just further down the road by the Clock , The area around MArket Street/Shopright, is Strewn with Prostitutes at night

  • lester.nel - 2012-08-23 18:32

    WTF!sies u perverts!

  • imam.madi.129 - 2012-08-23 19:27

The country would win gold for being hot down under, unzipping is a national sport. Sad when people target their young for sodomy and evil acts instead of sending them to school and removing them from drugs. The rainbow nation is sick, it needs exorcism.

  • BossBrain - 2012-08-24 07:06

    Pomp Strand!!

  • jacovanstraten - 2012-08-24 09:33

Let's close Seapoint main road because that's where the straights get there prostitutes......

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 10:50

This is why prostitution is illegal. No matter who's buying it brings the area down and lures all kinds of other nasties.

      aeon.lamour - 2012-08-24 11:49

Maylani, do you not read the news? Prostitution was legalized in 2010 just before the SWC. Unfortunately it is not illegal anymore.

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 12:07

oh cr@p, forgot about that. Hope they at least provide them with free condoms!

  • maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-24 10:41

beaches, parks, shops, movies - any place where children go.. always a problem.

  • russell.lockyer.54 - 2012-08-24 14:18

Here in the uk and the rest of the world it happens in parks, stations , bars and beaches. So dont knock Cape Town for it. Doing that just shows how blinkered you are. My parents, who moved to the strand 20 years ago have always said tghat area was a problem so why is this only now news?
