Durban - About 50 striking truck drivers set a truck on fire on Henwood Road in Pinetown on Friday, an eThekwini metro police spokesperson said.

Superintendent Eugene Msomi said the truck driver ran away when he was stopped by the strikers.

Police closed off Kings Road, Glenugie Road and Sunnyside Lane as strikers gathered.

More than 20 000 workers in the road freight transport sector went on a national strike over their pay increase on Monday.

Unions reverted to a 12% pay demand after rejecting a lower offer by employers on Tuesday.

Make the Unions pay for the damage they cause and hold the leaders personally responsible for their unruly behaviour.

Once you start negotiating with terrorists, you set a precedent. The same goes for giving the Lonmin miners what they wanted despite them killing cops and security guards. It clearly pays to kill people!

zuma and his incompetent colleagues doesn't give a crap about what's happening in SA. As long as they roll in the money it's fine. They don't care if it turns into a second zimbabwe. The best is, despite not delivering on promises, anc supporters will still vote for them after getting a T-shirt before elections. Why do you think people are still waiting for toilets, fresh water, houses after all these years? THEY DON'T CARE!!!

Metro Police need to use the city's CCTV cameras to identify the persons responsible for causing damages.Circulate the pictures so that the public can help in identifying the whereabouts of these scums.

These people are bloody animals. You would swear they have the mentallity of a cabbage. Why attack innocent people because you want a 12% raise. Its amazing they just want want want but not prepared to be civilized about it. Where do they think the money comes from to pay for everything that they damage in the process? Real barbarians, to thick to realize that all the damage that they create to property will end up being paid for to be repaired and replaced with the money they so desperate to have as an increase. Companies and the Government should just bring out a zero tollerance to violent striking and fine them heavily aswel as take their jobs away. They will quickely learn that there are procedures to follow and that things will go so much smoother when done in a civilized and professional manner instead of acting like animals
