Johannesburg - A University of Limpopo student was arrested in Mankweng on Tuesday after a newborn baby was found dead in a pit toilet, police said.

"Her roommates started to be suspicious about her conduct and eventually alerted police," Constable Moses Molepo said.

The baby was dumped in Mamotintane Village on Sunday. It was found dead on Tuesday, he said.

The woman was expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, on a charge of concealment of birth.

where is the LOVE? the first thing that after birth every mother did is to cry with love when they first see the new life they brought to earth without even thinking what challenges they are going to face and that's what we call love...well not this pr&ck that saw a stumbling block on her social life.

@The-Azanian: I don't scheme dude! Most woman suffer from post-partum depression and a lot has to do with the change of lifestyle that is suddenly required... I won't condone it but this woman has probably (hopefully) agonised about it and probably (again hopefully) suffered a lot making this decision... You go talk to a woman bearing a baby from a rape about all the emotions she is having. Then try paint the same picture...

      Nicki.Labuschagne - 2012-03-27 18:51

Post partum depression only kicks in days after birth and it is rarely severe enough to cause rejection of the infant. Even so, and even if the child was a product of rape, there can be no excuse for murdering a hepless child in this despicable manner. Why not take the child to a hospital/police station/social welfare or even the steps of a church? This is a person attending university for crying out loud, so don't even try to excuse this behviour by claiming she had no other options available!!!!!

      eleanore.hill - 2012-03-27 19:09

I dsagree Andrew. You are dealing with someone who is educated. She's an adult and should have had fair time to make her decisions re the childs life. If she was raped she could either terminate or look at adoption. There are options. This is a completely formed child. A human was killed, a defenseless human. Her actions are those of a careless human being, with no remorse, as she dumped the child like a piece of rubbish.

How about charging the B&@CH with murder!!!!!!!!

      David - 2012-04-13 12:23

Totally agree. What is this concealment of birth?

  • Jayson - 2012-03-27 18:17

Concealment of birth????????? Wtf what about frikken 1st degree murder???

      Nicki.Labuschagne - 2012-03-27 18:30

I agree Jayson. This poor, innocent life was ended in the most horrendous manner. Imagine drowning in human excretement? There is absolutely no excuse for this - there are other (free) options and places to take these unwanted children, whatever her situation. How deeply sad and disturbing; it has to be the lowest a human being can sink, to do such a thing to her own helpless flesh and blood. I do not wish to judge her, but her actions cry out for retribution for the life of that little baby.

      veritas.odium.paret - 2012-03-27 20:56

Technically that might be the only thing they can charge her with if they don't know whether the child was born live or stillborn. For it to be murder, it'd have to be properly established that the child had been alive when she took means to kill it and the law sadly operates on such technicalities. Of course, throwing a person in a toilet hole is just downright nefarious and a lack of reverence for human life that only a murderer would exhibit.

  • Jabu - 2012-03-27 18:20

Wonder why she did that. I wonder

      Shirley - 2012-03-27 18:38

Cause she is a selfish, heartless biotch!

      Wilma Crous - 2012-03-27 19:22

No excuse. Send her to jail for murder!!! (Nice to have sex. Not nice to be mother & act responsibly!!!???) Disgusting!!!

  • Jason - 2012-03-27 18:25

Uni Student??? Our best and brightest.............God help us!

  • Jayson - 2012-03-27 18:38

This precious and innocent little child did not ask to be born. There are so many couples that would do anything for the gift of raising that child. Yet this,,,,, I don't even have words to describe this women thing. Can chuck the child out like garbage. Shame on you.

  • Kelebogile - 2012-03-27 18:56

How does 1 do that? She had options damit!

  • Ngaka - 2012-03-27 19:07

Sad,very sad...please sisters let this be the last,we don't want have to read such stories in future. It is traumatic.

      Nicki.Labuschagne - 2012-03-27 19:21

Not to mention fatal. Our outrage and trauma are not the issue, and you are right. It is not the first time - neither will it be the last. Make an example of the murderer to highlight the severity of this heinous crime.

      Lucia - 2012-03-28 08:50

What amazes me Ngaka, you get a thumb down for your good comment!!! Another sick person? A thumb up from me!!

I'm against abortion, because even if it's the woman's body; a loving father to be can have his world destroyed if his wife or lover aborts their child even with him pleading her not to; but if you can really not have the baby, rather use that legal route than carry a fetus to complete gestation only to be born and denied the warmth of a mothers arms and the nourishment of he bosom. Rather the legal abortion than drowning a newborn in the urine and excrement at the bottom of a long drop toilet. Killing newborn infants in this fashion is murder. If a girl has so little regard for a fetus she had been carrying for 9 months and hear sob and cry after birth can immediately condemn these infants to death then they have no regard for human life in the least.

  • Niel - 2012-03-27 19:50

I'm sorry - there is NO excuse for her behaviour! Pitty there is no death penalty, because that's what she deserves!!

  • Raj - 2012-03-27 20:10

Dear Police Officer the way I see it, THIS IS FIRST DEGREE MURDER,unless it carries the same jail sentence as the crime you had charged her for. A crime such as this cannot be condoned because the umbical cord connects the mother directly to an unborn child. No matter what the situation is, a MOTHERS feelings will always be bonded to her child. SHe does not even deserve being called a human being. Its a pity the laws of this country is not AN EYE FOR AN EYE she would have deserved it. I say bring back the DEATH PENALTY and this beautiful country would have less violent crimes. But then the ruling party would have fewer votes. Criminals find it hunky dory inside the cells where everything is found free of charge (which is funded by the taxes from law abiding citizens of this country). I see a lots of woman standing in line to collect child support grants and besides there are other options than murdering a helpless innocent harmless child. Sis Sissy Sis!!!!!! Ay Wena

What a reeeeevolting biatch! Lock her up.

  • Ellen Mahlamali - 2012-03-27 21:51

Actualy what had happened in the 10 commandments that we believe n follow? Did she think she will get away with it by throwing the innocent newborn in a pit toilet. Unilim students u r taking the standard down cuz its a history dat repeat itself again while you have many options around. I think its high time that they must drop condoms even at off campus students residence.

  • Mofamadi - 2012-03-27 22:13

I wonder what was on dis girl's mind, giving birth 2 de only thing dat oders r tryin so hard 2 jst have 1,den she goes an do dis,der many question many peoples asks dem selves why ,what caused it,is she mentally stable, how about de guy was he dere 4 her,was he supportive/was she raped.why didn't she give de child 4 support

  • Lanka - 2012-03-28 08:42

Sorry for entering a controversial subject, but I just cannot understand the public outcry over the murder of this newborn babies (which I totally agree with), but if the same baby was murdered six months ago, it would have been seen as responsible family planning, curbing overpopulation and generally being part of making South Africa a better place. If we are as a country so pro-abortion, what difference does a few months make? It is the same child, the same DNA, the same potential locked up in a little human being.

      would you do it???

  • Virginia - 2012-06-01 14:45

Well there was absolutely no compassion and.......she is supposed to be educated! Forget post-partum depression. She could have left the baby at a church or school. Can't understand these savage morons. What she did was absolutely horrific. I think she needs to be spayed first "if" we can't throw her in a pit toilet and seal the lid.
