Cape Town - Students are making their way back to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology campus in the city.

News24 reporter Thulani Gqirana said outgoing CPUT SRC secretary Lutho Mhlontlo said they did not achieve what they wanted.

"He said students came to Granger Bay because they heard about a [management] meeting and that students are studying, but when they got there, they found that the campus was closed."

Students had earlier gathered in their thousands outside the Granger Bay campus, with the hope that management would address them.

News24 reporters say students are now making their way back to the CBD.

Students nationwide are protesting proposed fee hikes for 2016.
