Johannesburg - While a Sudanese plane earlier landed at the Waterkloof Airforce Base, it has yet to be confirmed if President Omar al-Bashir was on board the aircraft.

Radio Omdurman, Sudan’s official radio station, on Saturday reportedly confirmed the Sudanese president was taking part in the African Union summit.

Bashir has not yet been spotted by journalists.

On Friday the Democratic Alliance and the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) called for Bashir to be arrested if he arrives for the summit.

South Africa, as a signatory on the Rome Statute which was established by the International Criminal Court (ICC), is  duty bound to arrest Bashir if he set foot in the country, the organisations pointed out.

The ICC issued a warrant for Bashir's arrest in 2009 for his alleged role in war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity in Darfur.
