Suicidal man leaves warning for medics

Bloemfontein - A man who apparently gassed himself to death in his car at a Free State roadside left warning signs that the vehicle was filled with highly toxic gas.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks on Friday said firefighters used special equipment to open the car and removed the body of a 32-year-old man.

"He had mixed several industrial solvents and had managed to concoct a highly toxic gas similar to chlorine gas," said Wicks.

The vehicle, which was found between Fochville and Parys on Thursday night, had a yellow registration plate and was believed to be from Zimbabwe, he said.

No further details were available.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Anyone desperate enough for suicide should be desperate enough to go to creative extremes to solve problems. Elope at midnight, stow away on a boat to Where-ever and start over. Life is precious - especially your own.

Ruppersberg never judge people that take their lives...this man must have been suffering from manic depression which drives people over the brink when they reach a limit to take their lives...if u have not been there don't judge. Think of all the unanswered questions for the loved ones left behind.....

      Jason - 2011-12-09 20:22

Very true wordS! Wilma,I think you're missing the bottom line of what Ruppersberg is saying...LIFE IS PRECIOUS

      jruppersberg - 2011-12-09 21:06

Wilma. No one ever lacks a good reason for suicide. All healthy men have thought of their own suicide and yes, I have been there before. More than one soul dies in a suicide and I feel for this guys family but I will never approve of suicide and you should neither...

I actually like your way of thinking. when the normal solutions won't work, become desperate in your approach.

      Marion - 2011-12-10 10:07

@Ruppersberg - I agree totally that 'suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem'. However, that said, when one is in an extremely depressed state it is easier to slide further into depression than it is to work your way out of it - particularly if you don't have good support systems in place. Extreme depression is one of the most terrifying places to be in. I've been there often enough myself.

What a waste, but how considerate of the guy committing suicide, warning his rescuers. It's so sad that people are desperate enough to take this kind of action. What awaits them? Perhaps they expect oblivion, which is risky, as they might find themselves suffering even more for all eternity. At age 32, this is more than sad.

Yellow number plate hence the victim was a Zimbabwean. A deduction from a very shallow minded reporter.

      DieSeL - 2011-12-09 15:46

It says the car is believed to be from Zimbabwe.

      stevemoss4 - 2011-12-09 15:50

lol there are people in cape town that still have yellow number plates. does that mean they from zim?

      Robsschele - 2012-02-13 16:06

The rear number plates of cars in Botswana are also yellow.

Sympathies for his family. So sad to get so `down'.

  • owamin1 - 2011-12-09 22:10

"Suicidal man leaves warning for medics" ....the guy is dead and the headline says "suicidal man". He was suicidal while he was alive. He is now dead.

  • mario - 2011-12-10 07:39

he was enough selfish not to think about his family. why should I think about them? and where were they when he was alive?

  • Jerhone - 2011-12-10 08:19

To news24 where do you get your reporters from? "SUICIDAL" means the person is still alive contemplating suicide please stop with the KRAAL JOURNALISM

      Ryan - 2011-12-10 08:33

@Owahim1 and Jerhone: At the time he wrote the note I'm guessing he was still alive and suicidal.
