Johannesburg - The registration deadline for supplementary exams has been extended, the basic education department said on Monday.

"The original closing date was Wednesday, 21 January 2015 and this has now been extended to Friday, 30 January 2015," spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said.

This would allow pupils who failed three subjects to register to rewrite two subjects.

"The extension will also afford those implicated in the mass copying investigation to register provisionally, pending the outcome of the investigation which will be announced later this week."

Around 135 943 pupils qualified for the supplementary exams, to be written from 16 February to 24 March.

The results would be released on 30 April.
