Suspect in police killing dies in shoot-out

Johannesburg - A suspect in the killing of a police officer and the wounding of another in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, was shot and killed early on Monday morning, Gauteng police said.   

"A suspect who [allegedly] killed the police officer from Hillbrow on Saturday 22 August 2015 was fatally wounded during a shootout with the police in Jeppestown this morning," spokesperson Brigadier Mashadi Selepe said.

"The other suspect was arrested and the police firearm stolen on Saturday was also recovered. Warrant Officer Moses Boipelo Mosekwa, 47-years-old, was killed by the suspects."

Mosekwa was killed and the other officer wounded around 02:10 on Saturday morning in Hillbrow, police said at the time.

An off-duty officer was shot around 20:00 on Friday night in Laudium, Atteridgeville and died in hospital three hours later.

Police called for anyone with information about the shootings to come forward.
