Durban - A man who faced charges of business robbery managed to escape just before warders at the Ladysmith Correctional Services were about to book him in, police said on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said Nkosingiphile Cyprian Mbatha, 23, was remanded into the custody of correctional services after appearing in court and was being transported by police when the incident occurred on Tuesday.

“He managed to elude officers and disappeared within a matter of seconds. He was wearing a red T-shirt and blue overall trousers at the time of escaping. He is of medium height and build with a light complexion,” Zwane said.

The public were warned not to approach him, but rather contact the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
