Suspected gang kingpin gunned down

2012-07-31 08:32

Cape Town - A suspected leader of the notorious 28’s gang has been shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Elsies River over the weekend.

The Cape Argus reported that Joseph Julius and another man were shot dead in front of a hair salon.

The shooting happened at about 15:00 on Saturday afternoon. Police found 21 cartridges at the scene.

Two men apparently opened fire on the men while they were sitting in a parked car. A third man was injured in the shooting.

The shooting came amid a gang “peace truce”, which was established in Hanover Park two weeks ago.

An additional 100 police officers had been deployed to gang hotspots to tackle violence, said provincial police communications head Novela Potelwa.

He maybe someone's father but as the saying goes: 'you live by the sword, you die by the sword. How many innocent people were hurt/killed by this monster.

whats the problem, as long as they shotting each other, i dont care.

      richard.hipkin - 2012-07-31 09:06

That's the problem, they not, they killing innocent children in the cross fire. there is more chance of an innocent being killed then a gang member.

      frans.vanderpoll - 2012-07-31 09:11

Totally agree with you Niel, but as Pointblank mentioned - innocent people are being caught in the crossfire. I still say bring in the army to shoot the living daylight out of these bast@rds.

I remember a story about 3 Pagad guys in a Nissan hardbody , the guy in the middle was meant to throw a hand grenade into the house of a suspected drug dealer. Problem was the guy sitting next to him forgot to open the window so the grenade bounced back and detonated in the car. The whole thing looked like a suicide bombing

      arm.witmens - 2012-07-31 09:18

honest mistake. Ian smith once fired an RPG or similar from within a car without thinking about the backblast. It blew out the entire windshield with the car's licence disk on it and they had to go back later with bleeding ears to see if they could retrieve it.True story

  • stuka.nel - 2012-07-31 09:52

So that's it?..your a notorious gang leader and you get capped infront of a hair salon? no massive gunfights, no valour, not even time to cry for your mother that you sold in to die in your car infront of a hair salon, no 50cent music blairing out while take your last that's thug life.

  • Mpotsiseng - 2012-07-31 10:11

Stupid Government are only going to react once a couple of kids have been killed stray bullets. Cops know who these gang leaders are. Why dont they just assasinate them? instead of letting innocent people being coleteral damage.

The Cape Argus also reported that the Kings took R40 million not to join the super 15. We now know that wasn't true. Its tough to know what is true or false these days.

The 28's honoured the “peace truce”, however the others one did not. Gang war's are like religious wars. It started (if I remember correctly with the Scorpions)and continues but NEVER ends! The next one in line will probably continue the old "wild and western" ways, only difference they will be more determined and even more p'd off. Who ever did the shooting are going to be very very sorry, because when caught, there is no mercy. May you both RIP. No human being is always bad. The fact that they sell drugs, wage wars, destroy lives and do the unthinkable does not make them ALL bad people of the heart. Gansters can easliy be compared to the Hell's Angles / Kangaroo Courts and sometimes actually save lives. They are just picky about who they save.

One down, a few more to go! There IS hope that our people may live without fear and intimidation! High time the communities 'ganged up' on these scumbags!
