Cape Town - An ANC Western Cape ward councillor who was suspended by the party on Saturday has joined the Democratic Alliance just a day later.

The ANC announced on Saturday that Kraaifontein Ward 101 councillor Siseko Mbandezi was suspended with immediate effect for not performing - and on Sunday the DA welcomed him into the fold.

DA Western Cape leader Patricia de Lille said more and more people were choosing to turn their backs on the ruling party and join the official opposition in the country.

“In the Western Cape the DA showed that there is an alternative for South Africa under ANC rule. An alternative of good governance, of service delivery and of job creation,” she said in a statement.

“When we welcome new members in the DA I am always reminded that belonging to a political party that truly represents your values and voting for a government you want isn’t simply your right. It is your duty.”

De Lille said Mbandezi had made the choice to fulfil his duty.

The councillor did not respond to calls for comment.

This comes barely a week after the ANC in the Western Cape welcomed Cyril Mack, a councillor, and Danny Bolton, a DA official in the Durbanville area, to its side.
