Johannesburg - Two brothers have been arrested for
assaulting a Germiston metro police officer, Ekurhuleni metro police said on
Thursday.
Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said the officer was
attacked on Wednesday night, while arresting a man found in possession of
drugs.
"Metro police officers confronted a man outside an
internet café.
The man was found in possession of an illicit substance."
A metro policeman was about to arrest him when he ran
away. He entered an internet café, where a second man assaulted the
officer.
"The metro police officer ended up with a broken
nose and broken eye-bone. The injured metro police officer is due undergo
surgery tonight [Thursday] at the Union Hospital in Alberton," said
Kgasago.
The two men, who were brothers, were arrested and charged
with possession of illicit substance and assaulting a police officer.
They would appear in the Germiston Magistrate's Court on
Friday.
