Tackle causes of strikes - Nxesi

2012-11-23 13:06

Johannesburg - The cause of strikes in several sectors of the economy need to be tackled head-on, Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi said on Friday.

"We have not yet confronted the deep issues in the South African society. We are just papering over cracks and if we don't confront them they are going to explode," he said in Johannesburg.

Nxesi was speaking at a construction industry transformation summit in Kempton Park.

He said collective bargaining processes had to be reviewed and beefed up.

"It is better to deal with organised workers than to deal with them unorganised because you don't know who to talk to once they explode," Nxesi said.

Nxesi said that not enough had been done to change the lives of people in South Africa.

"We are talking empowerment this and that... but has that changed the lives of our ordinary masses? Our ordinary people?"

If the anc stopped stealing the money through their various self enrichment schemes then there will be more than enough money to provide for the citizens of this country. But until senior politicians stop building excessive compounds I'm afraid to say the poor will continue to suffer.

R400 million parties. 2 commercial airliners at once for overseas trips. Billions being spent on hotels and catering. A so called king being given tax money. Compounds being built for own pleasure (Still don't understand how a R1 million bond explains R250 million upgrades) and the list goes on and on! Zuma and the ANC do not understand that tax money is supposed to be spent on the country and not their own pleasure! It's a job to be the president and to rule the country! It's not a privilege to raid the state coffers! I think a vote of no confidence should be debated for the whole of the ANC!!!!

I am so sheel-shocked at times, that I tend to revert to my extreme youth: so saying, these come to mind. By Mark Twain: If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed." Nog een: "Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Parliament....But then I repeat myself ". Lastly, " A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money.. -G Gordon Liddy

"Our ordinary people" , you are ordinary, im a everyday person thank you! What makes superior if i may ask? As for the causes, its greed and assumed selfworth that drives allot of these stikes....dont we all believe we are important and that our time is worth more!

It seems to be the ANC way to just paper over the cracks, unfortunately they have created a crevice ,pretty much like this article just "covering his crack"

The cause of all strikes is COSATU. Now "tackle" them! You are forever promoting collective bargaining, but when you look for people to tax you become more "selective" and target the man that stands alone, the employer. Look around you and see where the tax money come from for your expensive German sedan and the astronomical upgrades to your "official" houses. Control you lapdog COSATU and you control strikes and in doing so, you will improve the economy for all.

What on earth happened to the once-fiery SADTU Secretary General who was an arch enemy of corruption and promoter of political/moral correctness?

  • JanGrimbeek - 2012-11-23 14:13

Private sector are being killed by over taxation. Cannot afford to pay more. Then the tax money pay for overindulgence in Parliament an provinces so nothing is leftover for the needy. We can start in you department minister, stop hiring fancy buildings, buying new furniture ever second year. A lot of money will be saved. Look after the countries assets, do maintenance. Let the President pay for his own house. Easy.
