Johannesburg - The alleged killer of 4-year-old Taegrin Morris is expected to apply for bail in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.

At his last appearance a week ago, the court heard that the accused Thamsanqa Twala was changing lawyers.

Dressed in a creased yellow shirt with brown elbow patches, Twala told the court through an interpreter that he had made other arrangements for his defence lawyer.

He said he had not had much time to speak to the new attorney on the phone, but was told the lawyer would be ready to proceed with the bail application.

Morris died when his parents' Volkswagen Golf was hijacked in Reiger Park, on the East Rand, in July. Three men approached the car in which Morris, his sister and parents were travelling, and ordered the family out.

The boy was caught in his seatbelt and dragged along the road as the hijackers drove off. The car was abandoned in Boksburg.

Scores of community members filled the court when Twala first appeared in court several weeks ago.

They shouted "no bail" and "genoeg is genoeg" (enough is enough) as he was led out of court.

Last Friday, police controlled admission to the court, which was surrounded by razor wire. Only 15 people were let into the courtroom.

Community leader Hein April said despite this they would continue to come in their numbers to support the Morris family.
