Cape Town - Tansey Coetzee from Johannesburg walked away with the 2007 Miss SA crown at the glittering Sun City Superbowl event.

The 23-year-old, dressed in a beautiful evening gown designed by Gerrit & Pienaar, was crowned by Megan Coleman, Miss South Africa 2006.

The runners up were Avumile Qongqo of Queenstown (first princess), and Manisha Pillay of Kwa Zulu Natal (second princess).

"I am here to make a difference," Tansey said after the crowning. "I'm not just a pretty face."

Tansey, who is a BA graduate in Corporate Communication at Rand Afrikaans University, stressed her belief that the competition is still relevant in today's society.

"It helps women to live out their dreams. I have been empowered tonight."

Tansey believes becoming Miss SA is an opportunity to meet influential people and change the course of your life.

'Lead by example'

"Miss SA needs to lead by example and get involved in society as much as possible. I want to use my title to make a difference and be a positive representative for women," she says in a statement on the Miss South Africa website.

Miss SA 2007 was presented by Craig Urbani (dressed by Strange Love) and Basetsana Khumalo (dressed by Gavin Rajah).

It proved to be the beauty contest of the century as this year's production was guided by the celebration of 50 years of the pageant - a superb golden anniversary.

The presenters took the audience through the history of the pageant recalling the triumphs and drama of a pageant rich in narration.

Interwoven in their presentation was the music that captured each decade.

The entertainment on the night was provided by local stars Danny K, HHP, Loyiso & Obita, Thabo Mdluli, Denim, Jamali, Ms-N and Craig Urbani.
