Cape Town - A Gugulethu tavern owner is set to go on trial in the Western Cape High Court in November on charges of killing his wife.

Thembile Vokozela appeared for a pre-trial hearing in the high court on Friday, where he heard that a trial date was set down for November 9, with three weeks set aside for proceedings.

The State said it intended calling between 10 and 15 witnesses, depending on the admissions that the defence made.

Lawyer William Booth was expected to defend him.

Vokozela, who is out on R5 000 bail, kept his arms crossed and looked around the courtroom. At times, he bit his lip and had a furrowed brow.

Ntombekhaya Vokozela, 42, was killed at their NY48 home in Gugulethu in the last week of 2013. He allegedly shot her dead.
