2010-11-22 14:46

East London - An Eastern Cape ambulance driver caught allegedly using the vehicle as a taxi, has been suspended, the provincial health department said on Monday.

Disciplinary proceedings would follow, spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said.

Traffic officials last week caught the driver using the ambulance to pick up hitch-hikers, and making them pay for the service.

The man was transporting patients from a hospital near Ngqeleni to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha when he was caught.
