Johannesburg - A taxi driver who had been using somebody else's name on his licence was cornered and arrested in Ivory Park, east of Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit was investigating a complaint by the real Aubrey Ringani, in whose name mounting pile of traffic fines were being issued.

The unit tracked the fake Aubrey Ringani to Tembisa, where he was in the midst of obstructing and endangering traffic, said NTACU spokesperson Simon Zwane.

He also introduced himself as Ringani when questioned and produced a drivers' licence in that name.

The taxi driver turned out to be a licenceless Mozambican national who had been passing himself off as Ringani for years.

He was arrested and his bail application was denied.
