Johannesburg - Two cars and two properties belonging to a taxi driver in Soweto have been torched following his arrest for the murder of a fellow taxi driver, Gauteng police said on Friday.

A group of taxi drivers and owners are believed to have gone to the man's home in Naledi around 09:00 on Friday and set his Toyota Cressida alight, spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said.

The men then allegedly proceeded to petrol bomb the man's home while his family was inside.

"The suspects allegedly threw petrol bombs [and] broke everything in the house whilst the children hid themselves in the backrooms," Mokgale said.

They then moved to his second property in Zola North where they allegedly broke the windows and set the house and his car alight.

"A tip off was received by the police that the suspects wanted to burn another house that belonged to the victim, but this was averted," she said.

Two cases of arson have been opened.

The man was arrested for the driver's murder on Thursday.

In a separate incident, another taxi driver was killed in Mapetla on Friday morning, said Mogale.
