Yip! Wonder if he could be stopped by a white traffic officer if this happened in KZN... 8 years old! thats extremely sad!

      Gestoffle - 2012-05-23 10:08

My earlier comment got it is again...... Its totally okay to kill people if you a taxi driver.....this was during peak hours.

      Kala - 2012-05-23 10:14

12 people killed by taxi drivers this week alone. And those are the reported incidents. The taxi drivers shouldn't be fined, they should be charged with murder.

  • Abdul - 2012-05-23 09:39

The driver will say he "DIDNT SEE THE KID"....pure recklessness and negligence!!!!Our drivers need to be educacted. Drivers dont obey road rules Just take a look at "GOTCHA" on teh website wwwfatalmovesdotcom

      Wilhelm - 2012-05-23 09:50

Couldn't the driver have noticed something wrong when he dragged the boy a couple of meters?

I think a class action should be started against the metro and police services, (Re: The Fines Issue) who are they to decide if and when they should apply the law, the way I understand it, that in it's self is defeating the ends of justice, WE HAVE TO TRY AND MAKE A PLAN HERE, any young fired up lawyer intrested, we some how need to re-instill a culture of accountability, we talk to much and do too little !!!!!!!

  • Freddy - 2012-05-23 09:47

Read the story before you comment ppl

      Kala - 2012-05-23 10:15

I did... My comment still stands.

  • Wilhelm - 2012-05-23 09:49

No further comment? Only what happened and not what happens afterwards. O yea forgot. its not illegal for a taxi driver to kill a young boy because they break the law. O yea. they can't break the law anymore. My bad. Sorry.

While gov officials and friends own Taxi's nothing will change while only getting worse with more deaths. Very sad to loose another person so early in life.

  • vmeiring1 - 2012-05-23 10:21

Ya, just don't fine them. They can do what they want, even murder innocent people. And all this life losses due to taxi's is blood on the ANC's hands.

Children as young as 8 should not be commuting to school alone. The parents should be charged with neglect. Every day i see kids as young as 6 navigating busy roads to get to school. The parents should be named and shamed and charged with neglect.

      Garth - 2012-05-23 10:30

Dearest Rainbow.. There is this thing called poverty, clearly you've never heard of it!

      Rainbow - 2012-05-23 10:47

Actually I have Garth, I come into contact with it every day and I myself am a struggling single mom who is forced to take my son to school via a taxi because i dont have a cushy life and nice car like you do. It uses up alot of my salary and sometimes make me a few minutes late for work but I would never allow him to commute alone he is only 8. And what has povery got to do with it a plan can always be made to have the child escourted, i often see kids get onto the taxi's unattended their parents couldnt even be bothered to walk them to the ranks. The kids that live in the cities also walk alone to school and it has nothing to do with poverty it has to do with the parents not getting up a little earlier and taking the time to escourt their kids to school.

      Garth - 2012-05-23 12:03

Fact of the matter is that you still have a job and an income.. So good for you for being responsible and escorting your child to school. Fact remains that many just do NOT have the financial ability to do so.

Poor child and the child's family. Such a tragedy. Are taxi's still expecting that traffic cops leave them alone during peak hours? Disgusting

Bus drivers are taught to ensure that he checks all mirrors to ensure all his passengers that have alighted are safely out of his path and he can continue. He is taught to not pull off until any passengers finding a seat are secure and train drivers listen for the whistle from the conductors before continuing on their journey. It doesn't always work because a bus may reverse not seeing a passenger behind it - but at least they learn these things. Some taxi drivers get their licence but are they every taught the etiquette of carrying passengers. When this taxi driver knocked the boy did he not stop immediately. It is probably the dragging that killed him. What the hell is wrong with some people. How the hell did he knock somebody over walking right in front of him????? It's not like the taxi was cruising along at night and some kid jumped in front of his. Was this taxi driver drunk???? My condolences to the family. All i can say is - parents you are taking a big risk letting your kids travel by taxi - use the bus or get the schools to arrange reliable and decent taxi drivers.

  • chantelle.boheim - 2012-05-23 12:06

Where there is a taxi, there is an accident that results in someone dying...FACT!

  • San - 2012-05-23 13:10

The taxi drivers will not be fined, but given a license to kill!!! When are they going to pull these taxi drivers in? My condolences to the family of this young child.

  • gemmaleigh.evans.3 - 2012-05-23 13:14

Taxi Drivers...there is maybe 1 in every 100 that actually drive with respect and obey the rules of the road. Bloody blind FOOL!!! And KZN wants to give taxi drivers free reign on our roads?! What a joke! What a SICK joke!!!

  • truternicole - 2012-05-24 14:32
