Pietermaritzburg - The ongoing taxi violence in Durban saw two rival taxi associations pelt each other with rocks in Newcastle on Wednesday.

Durban SAPS spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said a fight broke out between the two groups at the Newcastle taxi rank yesterday afternoon.

“They are suspected to be the two taxi associations in conflict,’ he said.

“They threw stones at each other and so far no injuries have been reported.”

He said there were no reports of gun shots fired as rumours initially suggested and no arrests had been made.

“A case of public violence will be opened at the Newcastle police station,” said Naicker
