Johannesburg - The woman who was killed during taxi violence in Tembisa on Tuesday morning was on her way to work at the National Prosecuting Authority.

"She was a librarian [at the NPA]," spokesperson Bulelwa Makeke told News24.

"She was a lovely, bubbly person. We just need to get over the shock."

Makeke tweeted photos of National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams and his management team consoling the woman's colleagues with prayer.

The woman was shot and killed and two others were injured during taxi violence at the Sangweni taxi rank in Tembisa on the East Rand on Tuesday morning.

All three were passengers, Major Mack Mngomezulu said.

"These passengers were getting into a taxi when this unknown car came and started opening fire on them.

He said the passengers were climbing into the taxi when they were shot.

"The situation is under control. Police are still managing the crime scene."

He said it was alleged that two taxi associations were at odds with each other.

No arrests have been made yet.
