Johannesburg – A school teacher has been arrested in connection with the murder of the woman initially thought to be comedian Trevor Noah’s cousin, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old teacher from Muden was expected to appear in the New Hanover Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, Colonel Jay Naicker said in a statement.

Cebisile Khoza, 26, also a teacher from Muden, was reported missing in Greytown. Last month, her body was found in a sugarcane field in Harburg.

She was allegedly kidnapped, stabbed several times, and set alight. A two-litre container with petrol was found next to her body, Naicker said.

The Sunday Times reported on May 24 that Khoza was Noah’s cousin. She was buried in Wasbank on May 23.

The paper quoted Noah’s grandmother Nomalizo Noah, 88, as saying that they were related.

Khoza’s father Dumisani initially told the paper that they were related to Noah, but then retracted his statement.

Nomalizo Noah also subsequently denied saying that Khoza was related to Noah.

The paper later retracted, explaining their mistake in linking the murdered woman to Noah.
