Johannesburg - A man has been charged with rape and suspended from teaching at a high school in KwaThema in Springs, the Gauteng education department said on Wednesday.

Two pupils from Nkumbulo High School had laid charges of rape and intimidation against the teacher, spokesperson Charles Phahlane said.

The man, in his 40s, appeared in court on Monday and was released on bail on Tuesday.

"He was placed on precautionary suspension pending an investigation."

The department had launched an investigation to determine whether any other students were abused.

"There have been more allegations coming from other students and we will be investigating further."

Psychologists had been sent to the school to provide support to the pupils affected.

It is despicable that people who are supposed to lead South Africa and be examples are involved in heinous crimes such as this. I really weep for our beautiful country! :~(

There's hungry inmates waiting to TEACH him a thing or two about Vaseline and biology. Such animals belong in a cage.

Our moral fibre is fading away day by day. Educators rape children put under their care, politicians are laws to themselves, thugs get bail, etc. What is going on here? Who else should we trust, now? I'm very worried by the way our systems are failing us, but if two people would agree to do the right thing, then the other one, then next ...we will get there and deal with these corruptible seeds from our society.

In cases like these, I really think that the parents of the children should be allocated some alone time with the said "educator".
