Cape Town - A 35-strong team of firefighters are battling a vegetation fire off Ou Kaapse Weg in the Noordhoek Wetlands, the City of Cape Town’s Fire Services said on Thursday.

“Our team is still able to control it and although the area is huge, the fire is being attacked from all sides,” spokesperson Liesl Moodie said.

The blaze was reported at 11:15 and eight fire engines and five water tankers were trying to extinguish the flames.

Council firefighters are being supported by Table Mountain National Parks and Working on Fire.

Additional resources were dispatched at 13:40 as the fire spread toward the Masiphumelele area, Moodie said.

“Currently no property is in danger,” she added.
