Tears as granny gets stolen car back

Bloemfontein - A Free State grandmother cried tears of joy when police told her that her stolen car had been found.

Joey van Zyl, 67, was delighted to hear her “Nissantjie” had been found, reported Volksblad.

“It is my and my granddaughter, Bianca Jordaan’s birthday and Christmas present. It was the best news in a long time.”

The car was stolen from the garage at their home in Reddersburg in July.

Police looking for a stolen truck found the Nissan with a Free State number plate near an Mthatha hostel in the Eastern Cape.

It had a false number plate but the licence disc showed that van Zyl was the owner and that the car had been stolen in Reddersburg.

Van Zyl said it was an old car but “it is my everything”.

“Times are tough and we struggle with transport. I can’t really walk anymore. I couldn’t go to town or to the doctor.”

Van Zyl said she couldn’t believe her car had been found and would now go about organising for its return.

Please remember to re register your car and get police clearance as the car has been recovered. They know how to lead you on a merry dance - not enough that they allow thieves to act with impunity, but you get the runaround when trying to remain legal.

Let's hope the car is still roadworthy......
