Teen arrested for murdering gay man

Cape Town - The teenager arrested in connection with the murder of a Cape Town man stood at the scene of the crime, talking to the father of the man he allegedly killed.

Clayton Fillies, 18, was arrested while he was writing exams at school last week, the Daily Voice reported.

He was charged with murdering Neil Daniels.

Reverend Casper Daniels said he believed his son had been murdered because he was gay.

His son’s body was discovered in a reeded area in Brooklyn after it had been set alight last week.

Daniels remembered standing next to the suspect as he looked at his son’s body and said Fillies had asked him whose body lay there.

“When I was at the scene, he (the suspect) was wearing a white cap and was standing next to me and I didn’t even know it was him.”

Daniels said he wanted to go to court to look his son’s alleged killer in the eye, adding that he wanted justice for his son.

I'm wondering whether the first assumption that he was killed for being gay is still valid or not, we'll have to wait for the so called 'incompetent' cops that caught an alleged killer within a week to tell us the motive.

just another day in south africa, gay , str8 , black or white. Life is meaningless in a terroist run regime only interested in themselves and what they can take from the decent people of the country. sad but true , until the masses realise what is being done to them and i dont believe that will ever change , just get worse.

Why always the "gay man or person thing"? They never mention "Straight" people getting murdered or murdering people?

      Char - 2012-06-12 12:51

Jeeze, offhand I can't think of one murder case where the perpetrator says "I killed him because he was straight" or..."I couldn't deal with her not being a lesbian, i had to kill her!" In this particular case, the father believes his son was targeted because of his sexual orientation. Maybe the son had spoken to him about something or had mentioned being targeted previously. We don't know (thanks to News24's usual half-baked reporting skills)

How stupid are you? When in history have straight people had to endure discrimination for simply being straight? Unbelievable! Perhaps this particular incident wasn't a "hate" crime (I'm not at all familiar with the facts), but to suggest that his being gay doesn't matter is complete nonsense! Try getting some education!

Not too often an 18 year old kid kills a 36 year old man because the older man was just walking down the street. Perhaps Clayton (like many under age boys) had been abused or profiled in the past by older gay men. This is a common occurrence in the gay community. If we are going to be sensationalist about a 'homophobic' murder let's also be sensationalist about the cause of this murder right? Or perhaps like others have mentioned we can stick to facts until the truth comes out?

was the victim 36? i had no idea

@Char Do we also report 'White man killed for being white?" or "Black man killed for being black"? A month ago a boy was sodomized according to News24, denied at a later point by the father of the boy as well as the boy himself. Goodness, a man who happens to be gay was murdered. I worked with a gay colleague who claimed to be sodomised one night out, was this because he was gay? Was his attacker also gay or was he straight? Here are the FACTS folk: 1. A homosexual man was killed. 2. His father knew he was gay, but according to his father, he had told no-one he was gay. 3. The man's body was burned. 4. According to Elize Saayman (neighbourhood watch) 'bushes around the vlei were favoured by homeless people and by youngsters wanting to hide stolen goods and do drugs' Can we at least stick to known facts as oppose to sensationalist speculation that make headlines? Did News24 not learn from the 'sodomised schoolboy' incident a month ago? C'mon guys, was E.T also murdered because he was 'gay' or did we actually wait for facts to be presented in a court of law?

Its a sad story to learn that - yr son being killed with his own friend or any other person. To the parents I can say it happened and take it may the his soul rest in peace. Justice must follow on the brutal killer and he will feel the music in jail, hope he gets a nice jail sentence. We are tired of people who think they are too clever in killing others, u kill u get killed easily in jail. If there is a place hard to be liked is jail but some they have turned jail as their place of holiday - this need to be changed.

Pennie dear! Its usually straight men who murder gay people and not vise versa!!!@Char! News 24's reporting is half baked? Your comménts are charred like your name!! I remember back in 2000 a friend of mine, Francis Majola (the mentor and legal guardian of Kwazi Kwaza, the news anchor on SABC one) was murdered in his home in Yeoville on June 16 of that year! He was gay and he was last seen on Rocky Street with a younger male (probably in his late teens) and the murder scene revealed that he was killed while he was preparing dinner(stabbed to death) and then dragged and stuffed under the bed. I do not remember one incident in history where there was ever victimisation or murder of a straight man by gay men!

I really dont understand the fuss about gay people, first who are they harming? second whats wrong with their sexual lives, non-gay people explore various sex styles too including gay sex, third God is the only one to judje human kind, fourth as long as they love each other dearly then let them be we need a lot of love in this world
