Kimberley - A 16-year-old boy says he was assaulted by fellow teenagers with a showerhead at a place of safety after he allegedly came forward and told how they stole from a teacher.

The boy from Bosassa in the Northern Cape said the other boys had stolen a ring from a teacher and he told on them, reported Volksblad.

“Ten kids broke into a teacher’s classroom and stole a seven-piece wedding ring. I told on them. I don’t know how they found out it was me who told on them. Two wardens came to unlock my door and told me to come out. Ten boys then stormed in.”

He said the boys started beating him with a screwed-off showerhead that had been put in a sock.

“They kept hitting me while two wardens watched… someone heard me shouting and came to help me. I was bleeding profusely and the room was full of blood.”

The boy said he was taken to an office and toilet paper was pressed into the wounds.

He was released into the care of his parents as he was awaiting trial. He said he was scared of going back to Bosassa.

A spokesperson from the department of social development said the incident had been reported and would be investigated.
